An old classic–familiar to many through the ages–comes together with modern technology in this wonderful daily devotional app for your iPod Touch, iPad, or iPhone. L.B. Cowman’s wonderful devotional book, Streams in the Desert, is now an app that you can refer to daily. It is available here at the iTunes store for the iPod Touch/iPhone or the iPad. The cost is $3.99. I have enjoyed using this app for over a year now and it is well worth it.
If you aren’t familiar with this classic devotional, Mrs. Cowman has taken passages from the Scriptures and found or written poems, sayings, thoughts, insights that apply to a theme she pulls from the passage. The over-arching theme of the entire devotional “book” (or app in this case) is that God supplies sufficiently in times of challenge or trial. Since the theme of my ministry and this website is Living Life on the Path of Praise, I thought those visiting this site might like this resource.
I use this app almost daily and God uses it to focus me on the truth that no matter what trial I face, no matter what suffering I may be enduring, the Lord intends to provide abundantly through it.
When you first launch the app each day, you are greeted by a pleasant “splash” title screen:
Then, the app automatically goes into today’s reading:
You can bookmark favorites by clicking on the red ribbon. If you want to jot notes down about how something speaks to you, you can click on the yellow “pad” rectangle in the lower left corner and get this screen:
If you decide you want to share an entry with someone via email, you can do that, too. Click on the icon in the upper left corner that looks like an envelope and PRESTO! Up pops an email with the text pasted into it:
If you wonder what you can do to enjoy some time with the Lord daily (well, other than the ideas I have shared here, like the God List, Praise-Fest, Gratitude, Praying Scripture, etc!), then this app is perfect for you. It is written in easy-to-understand English and, best of all, reminds me of some important truth that I NEED to remember when I am in the midst of trials!
